The Black Sea Entering into the Thracian Bosphorus
(Turkey- Constantinople- Thrace- Euxina Sea)
Issued 1670, London for Chetwin
Charming 17th century copper engraved birds-eye view print. Figures in the foreground sit on horses, title within an charming scroll work title, compass rose at top right. On reverse is a similar charming view of "Pompeis Pillar as Vulgarly called".
The image has a primitive feel, a style of engraving quite unique to this time in history. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this very reason. Also, the small size lends a feeling of intimacy, like a small near miniature image.
A picture is worth a thousand words. The photos are a major part of the item description. Please examine them closely, as what you see is what we will send you.
[note: we grade conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws.].
Print paper and engraved area remains well preserved. Some age wear or surface spotting/ soiling which is clearly visible within the scan, nothing offensive or severe, overall remains appealing.
Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous minor thin creases or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.
Charming little old vintage antique image, very attractive and entirely worthy of hanging for display, reselling, gift-giving, etc.
