(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Leather Books, Ceylon, Christianity, Sri Lanka, Missionary Work, Books with Maps).
Letters and Conversations on the Ceylon Mission.
Published 1830, Boston by T.R. Marvin for the Massachusetts Sabbath School Union.
202 pages (incomplete). Text in English. Includes two scarce early American wood engraved maps of Ceylon.
Book stops at page202, so lacking at least the final text leaf. Sold primarily for the two early maps of Ceylon, likely among the earliest maps of this island printed within the United States.
Attractive antiquarian 1/4 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands, gilt title lettering, marbled covers.
Book is physically old, incomplete (at rear) and shows some signs of handling and time.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing, leather and joints scuffed and rubbed but still supple, cover corners well worn down, remains overall very attractive as an object.
Book opens to title page, text block paper is well spotted and age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this rare book as it survives.
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than they appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take numerous photos and try to describe it openly and honestly.
