Published 1824, Hamilton, New York by J.P. Van Sice & Co.
168 pages. Text in English.
Rare American juvenile addressed to young people about to enter society.
Period 1/4 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands & title lettering, paper covered wood boards.
Early ownership name Nathan W. Cady, April 26, 1832, also giving price he paid (1/) on front blank fly leaf.
Book is physically old and shows some clear signs of age, time and handling. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding age worn, leather spine dried and well chipped, joints broken, covers held mostly by binding cords, some age stains, etc.- yet remains overall attractive as a hand made object of this early era which has original wooden boards for covers..
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered damp staining (mostly light and along the edges), internally still tight, fresh and sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
