Original copper engraved 18th century political satire print. (Satirical cartoon print.)
"The Chevalier D--r producing his Evidence against certain persons. One of the figures mentions an American shooting him. Native American figures with bow and arrows and feather head dress seen at left side.
An early use of word balloons within a cartoon image!
Print mounted long ago to a large backing sheet once within a scrapbook.
Pictures capture condition and print well.
Engraved print measures c.4 3/8“H x 6 1/2“ W.
Backing sheet is large with margins that allow print to be framed. On reverse are remnants of old text scraps from either a newspaper or periodical of the era.
A google search of the image will likely bring up the context and background that helps unlock what is being represented.
Unique and scarce survival.
