(Old Books 18th Century Books, Leather Books, Roman History, Cicero, Collected Letters, Correspondence, Decorative Book Bindings).

The Letters of Marcus Tullius Cicero to Several of His Friends: With Remarks, by William Melmouth.
Published 1753, London for R. Dodsley.
3 volumes. 477, 468, 384 pages plus Index. Text in English.

Period full leather bindings, slightly raised & gilt bands, gilt compartment decorations, gilt title lettering on contrasting leather labels, gilt pictorial cover designs.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.

Bindings age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints scuffed and cracked but all covers still firmly and well attached, some chipping in top compartment of vol. 1., still remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is toned, light scattered age spotting, internally well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this fine scarce mid-18th century antique set survives.
