Civitates Orbis Terrarum: "The Towns of the World", 1572-1618, by Braun & Hogenberg.
Published 1966, Cleveland & New York by the World Publishing Company.
3 volumes, each c. 300 pages. Text in English & Latin. Profusely illustrated throughout with hundreds of double page folio sheet b&w maps, reproducing every single map from the original set based from a fine set (as described in intro).

All maps set in on tabs allowing their removal if desired.

Publisher's cloth bindings, original pictorial dust jackets (rear top corner of one jacket is chipped away).

Mid 20th century reproduction of this influential, important, monumental and fascinating late 16 & early 17th century work.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.

Bindings gently age worn, mostly light or inoffensive signs of handling and time but nothing severe or unsightly, set remains overall attractive.

Paper is still clean, tight, sound internally. Set is essentially as new internally and close to that externally (just some fraying to dust jackets at spine ends, a small loss to rear top corner of one).

Still attractive on the shelf. The set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail showing how this huge set survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account.

Books Measure c. 17 3/4" H x 12" W.
