(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Periodicals, Royal Geographic Society, Sciences, Congo Free State, German Congo Expeditions, Leopoldville, Stanley Falls, Hannibal Alpine Pass).

Proceedings of the Royal Geographic Society and Monthly Record of Geography.
Published October, 1886, London by Edward Stanford.
Page count starts p. 609  ends with p. 680. Text in English. Folding map(s) at rear as issued (appear mostly unopened although paper is quite brittle).

Contents include: "The Congo free state," by Colonel Sir Francis de Winton, "Exploration of the tributaries of the Congo, between Leopoldville and Stanley Falls," by Rev. George Greenfell, "The last German Congo expedition," "The alpine pass of Hannibal," by Douglas W. Freshfield, "Proceedings of the geographical section of the British association, Birmingham meeting."

Maps include: The Congo, and charts of tributaries, and the Western Alps and the Passage of Hannibal. The paper on both maps is rather fragile so the maps must be handled with care.

Scarce late 19th century geographical periodical removed from bound volume (evidence visible along spine), no rear cover.

Original paper cover, lacking rear wrapper. Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Interior clean, some pages loosened from old dried glue binding, light signs of use.

The periodical remains well preserved given the fragile nature. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this antique item survives. Uncommon 19th century scientific magazine in any condition.

Magazine Measures c. 9 1/2" H x 6 1/8" W.
