Cathedrals and Cloisters of Midland France, by Elise Whitlock Rose. Illustrations by Vida Hunt Francis.
Published 1907, New York & London by G.P. Putnam's Sons.
2 Volumes. 402, 364 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout with b&w photos, several extra-inserted rotogravure plates on heavy paper stock with tissue guards, folding color map at rear keyed to locations described within the books.
Period 1/2 English calf leather bindings, raised gilt bands and title lettering, marbled covers & end papers, top edges gilt, deckled edges, profusely illustrated.
Set is over 100 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings gently rubbed but still supple with lovely age patina, joints scuffed with thin surface cracking although all covers are strongly secure as issued, set remains very pleasing, well preserved and desirable. Uncommon to find in such nice period bindings so well preserved.
Text block paper is gently toned internally still fresh, many leaves "unopened" as issued, well preserved, tight, sound. Almost as new internally.
Still attractive on the shelf. Spines gently uniformly age "sunned" to a light cocoa color as often seen with old green leather exposed to the atmosphere, in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this unique arm-chair travel set survives.
