2 volumes, each c. 425 pages. Text in French. Profusely illustrated throughout with hundreds of interesting vignettes and full page drawings/ line engravings, one color litho plate.

Wonderful range of contents, which includes illustrated reporting about early aviation, phonographs, electricity used for devices, a wide range of scientific topics, ethnicities from around the world, photography, machinery of different types, optical effects, very early automobiles, weather, medical topics, chemistry, anatomy & bones, on and on.

Period 1/4 leather bindings, smooth spines, gilt bands, title lettering, & compartment decorations, marbled covers & end papers.

Set is almost 130 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.

Bindings gently age worn and lightly rubbed, covers are strongly and firmly attached, set remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently toned, internally still clean, well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. This scarce set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
