Graveling

(Gravelines, North France)

by Gualdo Priorato.

Published in Wien, 1673 by Michael Thurnmayer for " Schau-Blatz des Niederlandes ".

Fine late 17th century folio engraved plan of this north European town. With beautiful full hand color which greatly enhances the visual appeal of the map.

One of the most interesting aspects of the plan is the clear delineation of the early fortified walls which still enclosed the city in the 17th century. The various early entrances through gates into are clearly visible as well as the early flow and pattern of canals. Important public buildings are depicted as are windmills and guard towers.

In Good+ condition. Paper gently wrinkled, some marginal brown speckling along top edge which is not offensive, overall the map is clean and very attractive, well worthy of display.

Otherwise remaining clean and well-preserved overall, still an entirely pleasing example of this charming 17th century city plan which will look lovely if displayed.
