Harbor view of the Seraglio at Constantinople c. 1830 era old vintage view printBrian DiMambro- Antique & Vintage Maps, Prints, Books & Gold Coins
THE SERAGLIO AT CONSTANTINOPLE
Issued ca. 1825-40 era. (no date or source known for the print which was acquired loose)
Engraved by Angus.
Nice mid-19th century engraved view print.
This particular type of engraved printing process was very laborious, involving long-apprenticed highly trained hand artisans. It also involved challenging hand-operated machinery, inking of plates, sheets of paper individually hung to dry, skill, patience, and other endless tasks and labor. Because of these and various other factors, this old printed leaf is an interesting original artifact from a long past moment in printing.
Please view scan closely as it allows for a close zoom inspection.
This scan is much better than any words and we suggest it should take precedence over our verbal description.
[ note: We grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws. We are doing our best to show & describe this item so you are happy when it arrives ].
Sheet is now uniformly gently age-toned, with minor spotting/foxing, as is clearly visible in scan -- overall still quite appealing despite any small age flaws seen or visible.
Could readily be displayed or collected, even with the small old spotting which adds a feeling of genuine age to the print.
In all, remains a charming antique printed image any collector, dealer, person of taste or institution would be pleased to own.
Sheet measures c. 8 7/8" W x 7 1/4" H.
Engraved area measures c. 7 1/2" W x 5 3/8" H.
We encourage you to print this description to keep with the image. It serves as an informal but valid Certificate of Authenticity for as long as you own it.
