(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Leather Books, Religion, Christianity, Anglican Church, Sacred Architecture, Hereford Cathedral, Worcester Cathedral, Illustrated Books).

Historical and Descriptive Account of the Cathedrals of Hereford and Worcester; with Numerous Engravings, by John Britton.
Published 1836, London by Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, and T. Longman.
c. 125 pages. Text in English.

Well illustrated throughout with a profusion of 32 fine hand engraved plates well printed on heavy paper, most still retaining their tissue guard separations (often loose).

Two separate scholarly works bound together, each a separate in depth examination of one of the two cathedrals named.

Part of a larger set, each work designed to stand alone, yet each a separate issue with contents complete unto itself linked only by theme.

Period 1/2 leather binding, raised bands, gilt compartment decorations & title lettering, marbled covers and end papers.

Book is 185 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.

Binding well scuffed and age worn, leather rubbed joints cracked/ split and scuffed, front cover slightly loosened or weakened by splits, rear cover still firmly attached, remains overall attractive as a hand-made mid-19th century  object.

Text block paper is gently toned, light to (in spots) moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this fine large early 19th century book survives.

Book Measures c.13 3/4" H x 10 1/4" W.

A large, heavy, monumental book.
