4 volumes, each c. 475 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout, including numerous chromolithographed plates, full page images and hundreds of in-text line drawings and wood engravings. 

Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather bindings, raised & gilt bands, gilt title lettering.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. A monumental set.

Bindings gently age worn but still appealing, leather and joints slightly rubbed but still supple, cloth covers spotted and stained, set remains overall handsome and very attractive.

Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A set which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
