Revue Illustre.
Published bi-monthly, Paris by F.G. Dumas.
323 pages. Text in French. Illustrated throughout. A scarce consecutive run of the first nine issues, from volume 1, Number 1- Number 9.
Publisher's 1/2 cloth binding, marbled covers. Each issue with color litho cover depicting a famous person portrait of the day, color used throughout, some color rear covers or full page chromo insert pages, often attractive art work. Includes the wonderful full page reclining celestial nude titled "La Nuit" printed by Champenois (art by Chaplin).
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding heavily age worn, both covers detached, text block still sewn but issues could readily be broken out individually if desired, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved and nice looking.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.Â
Please review photos for more detail showing how this scarce 19th century book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.
