India Mogol Empire 1719 charming decorative small antique engraved Mallet mapBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Presqu' Isle de L' Inde deca le Golfe de Bengala- L'Empire du Mogol .
(India- Mogul Empire- Bengal- Decan).
Issued 1719, Frankfort, Germany for A.M. Mallet.
Charming early 18th century copper engraved map, with pleasing full hand color. Most delightful pictorial cartouche at bottom right corner including what appears to be a Satyr as well as female goddess. Ceylon is shown in partial outline beside the cartouche tree. Note the strong mountain chain runing down the center of the continent.
The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of cartographic image quite unique to this time in history. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this very reason. Also, the small size lends a feeling of intimacy, like a small near miniature jewel.
Charming little old vintage antique map, very attractive, superior visual example and scarce thus.
