Joseph Addison Collected Works Spectator Guardian Newspapers 1801 Boston book
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Leather Books, British History, Joseph Addison, British Newspapers).
The Addison Miscellany.
Published 1801, Boston by Joseph Bumstead.
321 pages. Text in English. First American ed.
Crude early antiquarian 1/4 leather binding, smooth spine, paper covered boards, deckled edges, entire text block untrimmed as issued (rare thus).
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book survives as issued, without ever having been trimmed down by a binder (like vast majority of surviving books of this era).
Binding heavily age worn but still appealing, leather and joints slightly rubbed but still supple, original blue paper covering the boards now completely lacking, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is age toned as typical, various small stains and soiling, few pages display old damp staining, internally book remains mostly tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this book as it survives.
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than it appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take clear photos and try to describe it clearly.
Book Measures c. 7 1/4" H x 4 1/2" W.
