Leather bindings x 8 Eugene Field Works 1896-7 Scribners BibliomaniacBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
The Writings in Prose and Verse of Eugene Field.
Issued 1896-7, NY by Charles Scribner's.
Eight assorted volumes, offered primarily as inexpensive but fine and attractive antiquarian leather bindings appropriate for shelf decoration.
All books uniformly bound in attractive 3/4 leather bindings. Spines gilt lettered with ornamented devices in the compartments, raised bands gilt, marbled boards and end papers, top edges gilt, finely printed frontis plates with tissue guards, clean, tight and sound internally. Nicer than typical book bindings of the era for author's works.
Bindings uniformly sunned as typical for this color leather, small chipping to some spine heads, small scattered minor scuffing or surface scratches, overall visually attractive- leather remains supple and with a very pleasing age patina.
Handsome set on the shelf, represents 8 of 10 volumes; part of a larger set but each book stands alone, complete within itself as an independent work. An excellent set when first issued in the late 19th century.
