(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Leather Books, Children's Books, School Books).
The Form Book: Containing Nearly Three Hundred of the Most Approved Precedents.
Published 1829, Philadelphia by Towar & Hogan.
228 pages. Text in English.
Period full leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting black leather label.
In poor physical condition, but offered primarily for the owners early inscription to fly leaf, noting "Daniel Stoling- his book Bought in Huntingdon, the price 75 cents Feb. 6, 1830". Such detailed contemporary book price paid annotations are worthy of preservation in the history of books. The book reflects what may have been his very heavy consultation of it, with various stains, faults and defects.
Book is approaching 200 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, remains overall square and attractive as an object.
Text block paper is heavily toned, moderate to heavy scattered age spotting and old staining, top corner of two Index leaves at front are torn away with some loss.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
