Publisher's cloth binding, gift edition, gilt and embossed (stamped in blind) spine and cover decorations showing Stanley & Livingstone meeting in central Africa, all edges gilt. Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Interior contents clean and largely free of age spotting.
Excellent book for display.
Interior leaf displays early gift inscription, Christmas 1889.
Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Includes illustrated accounts of Arminius Vambery in Central Asia, and the explorations of Francis Garnier in the interior of Indo-China, plus accounts of Samuel Baker, Commander Cameron, David Livingstone in Africa, Paul Marcoy, Nordenskiold and Henry Stanley.
