Moos-A-Bec Reach Maine
(North America, Nautical Chart, New England, Maine, Moose Neck, Beal's Island, Great Wass Isle, Pig Island, Bar, Norton, Doyle, Head Harbor).
Issued Washington, D.C., 1879 by U.S. Coast Survey.
Lithographed with outstanding detailed hand color.
Excellent example of this scarce 19th century nautical coast chart.
Stunningly detailed, with endless sounding depths, small islands, bays, inlets, etc.
The coastal terrain is depicted with a splendid delicate level of precision utterly unique to this type of map.
With lovely detailed full hand color, a genuinely superior visual example.
Printed on a much sturdier "onion-skin" or bond type paper, unlike most 19th century Government nautical charts which were printed on a thin tissue paper. As always found on these 1879 Government lithographed charts, a tiny pin-hole in each of the four corners (all but invisible) used by the lithographer to secure the sheet down for printing.
Original fold lines as issued.
Sheet measures c. 15 1/2" H x 22" W.
Printed area measures c. 13 1/4" x 19 5/8" W.
