Mount Desert on the Coast of Maine, by Clara Barnes Martin.
Published 1874, Portland, Maine by Loring, Short, & Harmon.
95 pages plus 8 pp. advertising. Text in English. Folding maps on bond paper at front and rear. Illustrated with five original tipped-in albumen photographic view plates.

Publisher's pictorial colored card stock paper wrappers.

Very scarce/ rare 19th century guide book to this well known and still popular vacation spot off the coast of southern Maine. Very few 19th century guide books had original albumen photos in them.

The guide book is approaching 150 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.

Binding visibly age worn, covers damp stained and heavily edge worn, spine paper splitting, remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently toned, light scattered small age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Guide book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail showing how this rare 19th century tourist guide book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.

Book Measures c. 7 1/2" H x 4 3/4" W.
