Novum Testamentum Graece. [He Kaine Diatheke]. Jo. Jac. Griesbachii
Published Boston, 1809 by Wells & Hilliard.
615 pages. Text in Latin and Greek. Tomus Primus.(vol. 1).
From the library of American philanthropist John Amory Lowell, with his fine engraved armorial bookplate, an early gift inscription to him on a blank endpaper and his own signature at the top of the title page. At the rear are a few lines carefully written apparently noting his readings in the books of Matthew, Mark & Luke.
Entire text is in Latin & Greek, no English anywhere.
Period full diced leather binding, smooth spine with gilt bands and title lettering, compartments stamped in blind with devices, marbled edges and end papers.
Leather is age dried but still attractive. Joints cracked but covers still well attached. Scuffing and small chipping along edges, overall a pleasing period binding. Text block sound, clean and tight with light scattered age foxing.
Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
