Pennsylvania Township Map Erie Philadelphia Scranton c. 1861 Colton mapBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Colton's New Township Map of the State of Pennsylvania.
(North America, United States, Mid-Atlantic Region, Pennsylvania, Appalachia, Erie, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Scranton).
Issued c. 1861, New York by G.W & C.B. Colton/ Johnson.
Uncommon mid 19th century lithographed map with original hand color. Issued right at the edge of the start of the Civil War.
Nice looking example, pleasing age patina, paper uniformly age toned and slightly brittle as often encountered with Johnson maps of this era, light soiling and small scattered spotting, any minor age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Short 2" closed split at base of centerfold through the border but outside the map area.
Original center fold as issued.
Like most Johnson maps of this era, this example is one of several/ numerous variant issues which display varying borders and geographical details as time moves on.
Sheet Measures c. 18" H x 26" W.
