Neu-Vermehrt und vollstandiges Gesang-Buch, by D. Ambrose.
Published 1774, Philadelphia (Germany?) by Ernst Ludwig Baisch.
190 [192] pages. Text in German. Engraved frontispiece.
Bound With:
Geistreicher Lieder.
Published 1774, Philadelphia (Germany?) by Ernst Ludwig Baisch.
480, 72 pages. Text in German.
Period full leather binding, embossed cover design, woodcut frontis. Seems likely/ possible the American location is false and it was actually printed in Germany with a Philadelphia imprint).
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding heavily rubbed and well age worn, spine replaced long ago with cloth preserving some of the dried original spine which has been crudely hand lettered in gilt, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is well age toned, edges browned, some thumbing and soiling from extensive use, frontis detached with old tissue tape down the gutter of the plate, a few pages with bent over corners, frontis with almost invisible archival tape repair on reverse to close an edge split, couple text pages with small careful archival tape repairs, etc.- internally still mostly tight and sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this antique item survives.
