3 Volumes, each c. 300 pages. Text in French. Engraved portrait frontis plus 7 other full page well engraved plates throughout. Early lengthy inscription to fly leaf, (perhaps of the author?).
Period full leather bindings, title and volume in gilt on contrasting red morocco bands, gilt bands, compartments decorated in gilt, gilt ruled decorations on covers, marbled end papers.
Leather rubbed, worn, some chipping to spine ends and joints/ extremities. Joints on each volume cracked, broken or weakened, two front covers held by binding cords, title page with closed 2" edge tear, but internally text blocks remain clean, tight and sound. Interior remains clean and largely free of spotting and foxing. Any age flaws are easy to overlook or forgive.
Handsome collected works of Prosper de Crebillon Sr, the 17th century French poet and dramatist. A contemporary of Voltaire, the two poets engaged in a heated rivalry, which produced some of the most famous works of the era. A wonderful collected edition.
