Putnam's Monthly; a Magazine of American Literature, Science, and Art.
Published 1855, New York by Dix & Edwards.
6 monthly issues. 668 pages. Text in English. Engraved frontis portrait protected by original tissue guard. Illustrated throughout with 4 engraved plates.
Of particular note for the fascinating contents, which includes a very early speculative story about a trip to the moon which discusses terrain, potential inhabitants, etc. Also with long articles on the topics of "negro minstrels", The "Mormon question", should Hawaii be annexed and much more. Scarce early bound run of 6 consecutive issues.
Period 1/2 leather binding, raised bands, gilt title lettering.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding well age worn, leather spine chipped, rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
