The Great Eastern on the Stocks
2 different views of this majestic gigantic ship while still under construction and prior to the launching of 1858.
(Ship Building, London Docks- Harbor)
Rare mid-19th century antique color lithographed prints- sold together as a pair.
Issued 1857, London by the Illustrated London Newspapers as a color supplement to the Nov. 7th issue. Today very scarce, most examples now long perished, lost or unavailable.
Each is an actual antique/ vintage printed sheet of paper, not a modern copy or reprint of an old print. Each sheet shows signs of age difficult to capture digitally, but if we are offering it for sale you can be 100% certain it is entirely worthy of ownership by even the most discerning collector or dealer.
Couple short closed edge splits in blank margins, but color printed area of each remains attractive and free of visual flaws.
A picture is worth a thousand words. The scan is a major part of the item description. Please examine it closely, as what you see is what we will send you.
[note: we grade conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws.].
Sheet remains well preserved, keeping in mind it is not modern or new, so minor flaws to paper are sometimes to be expected. Some light age wear or surface spotting/ soiling, all of which is hopefully visible within the zoomable scan.
Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous fold-lines or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.
Attractive and appealing pair of old vintage antique prints entirely worthy of hanging for display.
A style and manner of depiction entirely unique to this era.
Each sheet measures c. 10 3/8" H x 14 3/4" W.
Printed area measures c. 8 5/8" H x 12 1/4" W
