South Africa 2nd Boer War 1899 British Boer Republics Lot x 2 early Battle Maps
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & PrintsUntitled Lot x 2 2nd Boer War Maps.
(Africa, South Africa, Cape Colony, Boer Republics, 2nd Boer Republics, Battle Maps, Railways).
Issued 1899, London, by G. Philip & Son. Issued for the weekly newspaper "The Graphic" as supplements.
Late 19th century color lithographed newspaper maps produced in Britain at the outbreak of the 2nd Boer war. One map includes flags designed to be cut out by the reader to represent troop movements, the other with extensive commentary below it.
Given their ephemeral and inherently fragile nature, both are relatively well preserved, nice looking example with pleasing age patina. The Commencement map is split down the middle and now rejoined on reverse with neat archival tape repairs. The other map has narrow side margins. Both have miniscule survival rates due to their source and nature.
Old fold lines.
Commencement sheet measures c. 16 1/2" H x 12 1/4" W.
