Very nice and uncommon original old engraved frontis print. With lovely hand color.

Issued 1700, Paris, I believe for de la Croix "Geographie Universelle- Tom. III" each volume of the set containing a different engraved frontis facing the title page. All are very scarce, little known and immensely elusive. If these were similar era medals or coins, we'd be discussing degrees of rarity.

Rarely found with such attractive hand color, a very nice allegorical image which captures a manner of pictorial representation and thinking now extinct.

Note the African black skinned man virtually naked in the center fore-ground, a native Indian-style figure next, a curious figure from perhaps Central Asia or Russia- Black Sea area is beside the elephant. A Chinese man with a goatee and pony tail is riding on the back of the elephant which is being directed by a loin-clothed native.

An actual antique/ vintage printed sheet of paper, not a modern copy or reprint of an old print. The sheet could show signs of age difficult to capture digitally, but if we are offering it for sale you can be 100% certain it is entirely worthy of ownership by even the most discerning collector or dealer.

Sheet remains well preserved, keeping in mind it is not modern or new, so minor flaws to paper are sometimes to be expected. Some light age wear or surface spotting/ soiling, all of which is hopefully visible within the zoomable scan.

Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous fold-lines or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.

Attractive and appealing old vintage antique print entirely worthy of hanging for display.

A style and manner of depiction entirely unique to this era.
