World in hemispheres 1750 Vaugondy nice hand colored engraved map Australia
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints

Mappe Monde par Vaugondy..1750.
Issued 1750 (1783 version here), Paris by Robert de Vaugondy.
Mid (to late) 18th century engraved map with attractive hand color.
This rare late appearance issued c.1783, Lyon.
Likely using an earlier, original 1750 era engraved plate although a close comparison could reveal differences or possibly entirely different plates (meaning this was a later pirated (unauthorized) re-issue version).
Note the undefined coastline of south and east Australia, clearly pre-Cook voyages.
Remains clean, some light old staining, still a nice looking example with a pleasing age patina. left fold line with spots of paperless and now backed with old paper and some small expert reinstatements to graticule lines.
Any age flaws mostly minor and easy to overlook or forgive.
Original fold lines as issued plus extraneous folds..
