Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Americana, World's Columbian Exposition, Illustrated Books, Souvenir Albums, Watercolors, Architectural Views).
The Winters Art Lithographing Company's Popular Portfolios of the World's Columbian Exposition.
Published 1891, Chicago by the Winters Art Lithographing Company. Based on watercolours by C. Graham.
32 pages. Text in English. Illustrated throughout with high quality chromolithography. Complete with 15 full page views of key buildings, including a splendid double page centerfold birds-eye panoramic view. Fresh clean example, likely distributed at the Fair by a merchant associated with it.
Lovely item beautifully color printed, very expensive to produce at the time. This fine and well preserved example over printed with the promotional "Compliments of B.F. Larrabee & Co.", merchants on the front cover. Most overprinted examples of World's Fair promotional items like this tend to relate to merchants associated with the Fair itself, to advertise their association with and likely availability there.
Publisher's oblong format pictorial paper wrappers, original decorative binding string. Centerfold is a beautiful double page speculative panoramic birds-eye view of the Fair grounds, executed prior to the final construction of the numerous buildings.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Very nice example, almost a file copy, any small age flaws are minor and easy to overlook or forgive.
