Asian Archipelago and New Holland

(Oceania, Philippines, Australia )

Published c.1850-2, Hildburghausen, Germany by Meyer

Fine antique engraved German map with original outline hand color.

Relatively early and interesting map in the cartographic development of Australia. Two detailed insets at bottom left depicting Southwest Australia with colonies and below this a larger one of New South Wales.

Produced in a manner utterly unique to this era in terms of engraving technique and color. The original outline hand coloring is entirely correct and specific to this map-maker. We have seen thousands of mid-19th century Meyer maps over the years and this is an excellent typical example. Ready for display.

A detailed and increasingly uncommon mid-19th century German map which could readily be collected on it's own merits, displayed or given as a present.

In Good antiquarian condition, age dustiness or small scattered age spotting as seen, sheet displays normal age toning & wear, overall the map remains visually attractive. Paper is ca. 170 years old, signs of age, not new or perfect, if you like genuine old paper items with minor flaws and imperfections, you will like this item. If you are seeking perfect and like new, this is not the map for you.
