Brian DiMambro- Antique & Vintage Maps, Prints, Books & Gold CoinsDie Martinswand Bei Innsbruck
(Austria- The Martin Wall Near Innsbruck- Rock Wall- Cliff Face- Mountain)
Printed c. 1830-40's, Europe (likely Austria or Germany)
Remarkably beautiful original antique print with some of the most artistic old hand coloring on an old print we have ever seen. The colourist was almost certainly an artist in his own right. The artist's ability to render such a clear sense of shadow in such tiny figures is nothing less than masterful. Gum arabic was also very carefully applied by the colourist to heighten the visual sheen and light reflectivity of the image. It almost looks like a miniature gouache painting.
A picture is worth a thousand words. The photos are a major part of the item description. Please examine them closely, as what you see is what we will send you. [note: we grade conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws.].
Print remains overall clean & sound, light signs of age typical to all old sheets of printed paper. The photographs or scan provided should capture the appearance better than words.
Old prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous fold-lines or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.
Wonderful old print entirely worthy of hanging for display.
A visual depiction captured in a manner entirely unique to this era.
Sheet measures c. 5 7/8" H x 3 3/4" W.
Printed area measures c. 5 3/4" H x 3 3/4" W
Essentially no blank margins, just a very thin black rule around the painting.
