453 pages. Text in English. Engraved frontis, illustrated throughout with four full page steel engraved portraits and many smaller in-text wood engraved images. 

Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather binding, raised & gilt bands, gilt title lettering & compartment decorations, marbled covers & end papers.

Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Early custom engraved book plate to front paste down.

Binding gently age worn but still appealing, small split at head of front joint (repaired), leather and joints scuffed and rubbed but still supple, covers remain well attached, overall attractive as a mid-19th century object.

Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
