A.B. Courter Draper and Tailor, Warrenville.

(Americana, New York, Warrenville, Vintage Advertising, Hand Colored Prints, Clothing, Fashion).

Created mid-19th century, c. 1860-70's, Warrenville, New York by M.W. Howe for A.B. Courter.

On card stock paper.

A unique and attractive mid-19th century folk-art merchant sign. Hand-made and lettered, a one-of-a-kind advertisement for this New York tailor.

Fascinating textured letters across the top with ink additions to create a 3-d effect. Across the bottom are hand drawn letters with extra artistic hand work to create a banner look. In the center is a hand colored fashion plate taken perhaps from a Godey's which has been cut out and mounted at the center. The artist of the work is M.W. Howe, painter, also of Warrenville. On the reverse is a section of a larger floral painting which was presumably also done by this same artist, then cut up and repurposed for the sign being offered.

Remains a nice looking example with a pleasing age patina, some overall toning but entirely presentable for display. Any age flaws mostly minor and easy to overlook or forgive.

Sheet Measures c. 10" H x 14" W.
