Fables de la Fontaine avec un noveau Commentaire.
Volume 1: 2nd edition published 1803; Volume 2- 3rd edition published 1807 Paris by Le Prieur.
2 volumes. 297, 347 pages, profusion of engraved plates. Text in French.
Fine and unusual set comprised of two works of the same author/ publisher but issued a few years apart and "married" here.
Period full mottled tree calf leather bindings, smooth spines, elaborate gilt compartment decorations, gilt title lettering on contrasting red and black leather labels, gilt ruled covers, marbled edges and end papers.
Bindings remain mostly clean, tight, and sound, light rubbing and scuffing, small chipping at spine bases, couple of corners worn through leather exposing board tips. Interior contents display a pleasing age patina, some light scattered age spotting throughout, some old damp staining to bottom portion of first volume. Any age flaws are easy to overlook or forgive.

Set along the shelf measures: 2 1/2".
