National Bellas Hess Fall Winter 1940-1941 Catalog.
Published 1940, New York and Kansas City by National Bellas Hess. Issued shortly before the U.S. entered World War II.
123 pages. Profusely illustrated in color and monotone photographs throughout with countless hundreds (thousands?) of images of all sorts of fashions for the family.
The actual period advertising sales mail order catalogue.
Packed with great images which are like a time capsule of the era clearly aimed at the female shopper in the house who would oversee the purchasing of clothes. Mostly female fashions with sections for babies, children and men.
Unlike modern reprints, this actual item from the time is printed on paper using inks and methods of production totally unique to the era which are totally lost in translation with modern reprints.
Most store mail order sales catalogues survive by random chance. Just like today, most were disposed of shortly after receiving or ordering from. All examples of any specific one should be considered fairly scarce, perhaps even rare, like this one.
Item remains relatively well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Some minor edge splits, light wear from browsing, clearly not new, but still quite nice, mostly clean.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this antique item survives.
