Hawaii Sandwich islands view 1795 rare old print Bertuch Kirauea Ponahohoa
$ 150.00

Volcanos and Geysers of Hawaii

(Sandwich Islands- pre-Missionary- Ponahohoa & Kirauea are shown. An image printed during Hawaii's incunabula period, among the very earliest printed Western images of the Islands.)

Fascinating and very uncommon original old engraved view print. With very old, possibly original hand color which is skillful and worthy of note.

The left side blank margin is trimmed very close to the image, but does not touch it. Image is printed askew on the sheet, but invisible once matted by simply slightly rotating the image in the mat opening. Aside from this, overall splendidly well preserved, a fresh looking example with lovely careful hand coloring better than typical for the era.

Issued 1795, Weimar Germany by F.J. Bertuch

Engraved by Reider

An actual antique/ vintage printed sheet of paper, not a modern copy or reprint of an old print. The sheet could show signs of age difficult to capture digitally, but if we are offering it for sale you can be 100% certain it is entirely worthy of ownership by even the most discerning collector or dealer.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The scan is a major part of the item description. Please examine it closely, as what you see is what we will send you.

[note: we grade conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws.].

Sheet remains well preserved, keeping in mind it is not modern or new, so minor flaws to paper are sometimes to be expected. Some light age wear or minor inoffensive surface spotting/ soiling, all of which is hopefully visible within the zoomable scan.

Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous fold-lines or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.

Attractive and visually appealing old vintage antique print entirely worthy of hanging for display.

A style and manner of depiction entirely unique to this era- almost like folk-art.

Sheet measures c. 9 1/2 " H x 7 1/4 " W.
