Ideal Pictures. Earlville, New York.
Published c. 1880-90's, United States. [1887, year of incorporation?].
Album containing 17 mounted original photographic views on 9 leaves, most back to back on heavy card stock leaves (as produced).

The early birds-eye view of the town is outstanding, as are many of the other images, including the commercial store-fronts.

Larger and nicer than typical, likely done in a tiny number of local residents who commissioned it (possibly by an itinerant photographer who would have taken all the photos, printed maybe a dozen of each and then created the albums using the generic blank album as seen done here. A rare and priceless find if you live anywhere shown within it. Possibly the type of item you might only bump into once every so many years or even decades, maybe never again. Likely a very rare early NY village photo chronicle. See wiki.

Publisher's photo decorative pictorial paper covered boards, oblong format, ribbon spine ties as issued, in original cardboard box (!).

Very rare thus, very few 19th century small town photo souvenirs survive with their original box in any condition.

Splendid album with nice views, particularly the buildings and details seen within the urban views such as commercial signage, window displays, bicycles and people.

Album is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition. Box is well broken along seams, lid lacking thin side panels, bottom box lacks part of one side panel, survives by mere accident.

Binding gently age worn, mostly light or inoffensive signs of handling and time but nothing severe or unsightly, book remains overall attractive as an object.

Paper is gently toned, still clean, tight, sound internally.

Still attractive on the shelf. The book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail showing how this book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account.

Book Measures c. 6 1/4" H x 9" W.
