die Mandarins oder Rittersleite- Mandarins.
(China- ethnographic- Chinese Mandarins).
Issued 1719, Frankfort, Germany for A.M. Mallet.
Charming early 18th century "miniature" copper engraved ethnic costume print, with very pleasing detailed full hand color.
The Mandarin holds a golden staff in his hand, a long jewelled sword attached to his belt, great crown hat, a youthful attendant servant boy beside him.
The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of image quite unique to this time in printed history.
